Generally we don’t plan to write much about consumer segment of IoT, our initial aim is to cover the IoT for business customers in several verticals. However, every now and then we find something quite interesting. One of these things is the FridgeCam from Smarter that is set up in your fridge and that makes a picture every time you open the door of your fridge.

This camer is using object recognition and then an inventory of the stock you have in your fridge is created automatically. The device can detect best before dates. There are two major benefits: one is the fact that you can always (while in the supermarket for example) check what’s inside your fridge and you can easily make a shopping list and in the end shop smarter, and another benefit is reducing waste since you will be informed before the products are not to be used any more.

This product can be fitted to any fridge so no need to invest in a brand new expensive fridge which is rather cool. However, potential problems might be the database of products for those of us who don’t live in the US or UK and also the quality of image recognition because I doubt this camera can cover the complete fridge with one camera and 100% recognition.
